Karen M.McManus - Book Reviews

I thought today I could share an author I binged throughout the first lockdown in 2020 and wanted to give my thoughts on the books and the series in general.

I had seen so much talk about One Of Us Is Lying and just never thought of picking it up as at the time when it came out I mainly read Chick Lit but it had been on my shelf for so long and decided to pick it up and was so surprised as I loved it! I was so hooked into the storyline and I just adored the characters and for some reason the story reminded me of The Breakfast Club, The story definitely spoke about some touchy topics which I thought was good from the author and although I did find certain parts of the story quite predictable I did still really enjoy it. I then picked up One Of Us Is Next which is the second book in the series and again I did enjoy this book but I wasn't as invested in the story as I was with the first book I have to admit, It took me a while to get my head around the characters and the background of them all but after a while I did finally get into the characters. I have to admit I found the last 100 pages to be the best part of the book for me as thats when the story seemed to pick up and I didn't expect the ending so I did enjoy it but it just wasn't a 5 star read like One Of Us Is Lying.

I picked this book up hoping I would enjoy this more than the second book in the One Of Us Is Lying series and this was such a good book and I did actually give it 5 stars! The book kept me guessing throughout the story and I didn't know what was going to happen next. I definitely couldn't guess how the book was going to end and I was so surprised when I did finish it. I definitely enjoyed this one as it was just actioned packed and the twists and turns were so good and I just didn't know what to expect and I didn't know what would happen or how the storyline would unfold but this was without a doubt a 5 star read for me.

Have you read any books by Karen M McManus?

  1. I read these two books during the lock down period as well. I 100% agree, first installment was far too interesting than the second one. Im going to start the third one after finishing my current read - into the water by paula hakwkins.
